Home Missions Today
October 14, 2009
This is Richard Gerber reporting the October 14, 2009, edition of Home Missions Today. God is using your prayers to develop the ministries of Orthodox Presbyterian mission works across North America.
LONGVIEW, TEXASChrist the King Presbyterian Church is rejoicing to have now moved into their new building. To their amazement, at just the perfect time, this building was donated to them by a church in another city and was then physically moved from that city to Longview, Texas this past January. Worship began in the building in June and a dedication service is to be held Friday, October 16. God has used the visibility of the building to bring new visitors and members. Pastor Phil Hodson asks you to pray that this blessing from God would be used to glorify Him and to advance the building of that house which is not made with hands. Please also pray for their ministry to college students as well as to new members and visitors who are new to the Reformed faith.
NEON, KENTUCKYPastor John Belden and the congregation in Neon, Kentucky give thanks for their new building and the work of outreach. Neon Reformed Presbyterian Church (OPC) began worship services in their newly renovated building in May. Pastor Belden had the opportunity to speak at a local Baptist church recently. He presented material from Natural Man's Religion, a gospel tract he had written specifically for evangelism in Appalachia. Feedback continues to come from articles published in two local papers. The congregation is rejoicing that one of the young ladies in the congregation has been approved to make her profession of faith. Pray that God would continue to provide for the needs of his people as they seek to worship him and make him known. Pray that the Lord would provide the resources needed to replace the storefront and side windows on their building. Please pray also that the families in the congregation would continue to grow under the preaching of God's Word and that God would bless the outreach of His church in Southeastern Appalachia.
MADISON, WISCONSINPastor Mark Jenkins gives thanks for an active summer of outreach, the start of a new members' class, and the help the congregation has received from several regular visitors from other OPC and PCA churches. Progress toward becoming a stable and organized congregation continues to be slow, but God's grace is evident. Pray that the Lord would provide a better meeting location and for Mark to see an increase in the number of new contacts he is able to make, even over the winter months. Pray also that fellowship would increase even though the congregation is much dispersed geographically. Lastly, plead with our God that the current sermon series through the Gospel of John would be used to convert sinners.
HONOLULU, HAWAIIRedeemer OPC of Hawaii is thankful to the Lord and overwhelmed by his grace and faithfulness. God continues to bless the preaching and teaching of his Word; he answers prayer and does abundantly more than this mission work can ask or even think. Even though faced with the kind of trials that every mission work has, by God's grace and provision, they endure. For different reasons, two families have determined to attend other churches. The Lord has brought a new family of six who have attended regularly since July and have become involved in the life and work of the church. Elder training with one candidate should be completed by Christmas. The project to procure a better facility is progressing. The property owner they have been dealing with has, in God's providence, unexpectedly offered a larger piece of property for the same monthly rental rate that they had considered a good deal on a smaller piece. Please pray for these concerns.
