The recent advancements that have been made in science, technology and social media have been nothing short of stunning. We are amazed at the progress made in these areas. People who died one hundred years ago would feel entirely out of place if they re-entered our world.

Science and technology have changed the world as we know it. But what have all these achievements and advancements done to change human nature? Nothing! People are still the same. They are sinful, ungodly, spiritually blind and as far removed from the truth as ever. Hours, days, months, even years are spent developing some new gadget to make life easier. People look for ways to enhance the quality of life, but we have become so obsessed with our new “toys” that we do not stop to ask the most fundamental questions: What is life all about? Why am I doing all of this? Was I created to wake up every morning just to head off to work and come home for a few hours of relaxation, only to do the same thing the next day?

We tend to look at life superficially, from the perspective of what gets done rather than from the perspective of why it gets done. This isn’t a new problem. That is why the Lord repeatedly challenges His people to take a look at what motivates them. Why do we do what we do?

In Isaiah 1:18 the Lord comes to His people like a father to his son and He says, “We need to talk.” The Lord challenges His people to examine their relationship with Him. He says, “Let’s look at the situation together because you and I are not in agreement. You are not responding to my love.” This God is our Father, too. He says the same thing to us: “Come now, let’s sit down together. We need to talk. Is your heart with me or are you just going through the motions?”

The technology we have created has made it increasingly difficult to remain connected with our heavenly Father. So when He in love comes to us and says, “We need to talk”, make sure you get focused and listen!
