The Orthodox Presbyterian Church's Health & Welfare Benefits Trust (Hospitalization) was established in 1966 to provide voluntary medical coverage for ministers, ruling elders, deacons and licentiates of OPC churches, and full-time employees of churches and denominational agencies. This coverage is both portable and competitive with other providers nationwide.
At its meeting in July 2008, the OPC General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Committee on Pensions, adopted the following motion:
That the 75th General Assembly authorize the Committee on Pensions to terminate the hospitalization plan effective March 31, 2009, and to assist the churches and presbyteries in making transition for the participants in the Plan to other medical care coverage.
