Presbytery of the Southwest

On this day in 1986, the Presbytery of the Southwest was preparing for its second presbytery meeting after being formed ten weeks earlier. The previous year the fifty-second (1985) General Assembly had granted permission to divide with the states of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico as the territory of the new presbytery. Charter congregations and their pastors included: Covenant of Grace OPC, Albuquerque, NM (Christopher Wisdom); Roswell OPC, Roswell, NM (Glenn Jerrell); Westminster OPC, Bartlesville, OK (Chester Lanious); Norman Reformed Presbyterian, Norman, OK (William Doerfel); Knox OPC, Oklahoma City, OK (Roger Gibbons); OPC of Abilene, Abilene, TX (Neil Lodge); Grace OPC, Amarillo, TX (John Hilbelink), Providence Presbyterian, Austin, TX (Gerald Taylor); Lubbock Chapel, Lubbock, TX (Timothy Bero); Grace OPC, San Antonio, TX (Jack Peterson); and, Tyler Presbyterian, Tyler, TX (John Johnson).
