December 13 Today in OPC History

Yale, South Dakota

2021

On December 13, 1942, the Presbytery of the Dakotas of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church received Yale Community Church as a particular congregation and installed the Rev. Melvin B. Nonhof as pastor. During the fifteen years of Pastor Nonhof's ministry, Yale Community Church had an active Sunday school program and ladies' aid society. Ruling elder members on the session during this time were Messrs. Edward Cooper, John Feicke, and Glenn Foote. Pastors Robert Sanders (1958-1967) and Stanford Sutton (1967-1973) followed Pastor Nonhof. As the population in the rural community in Yale dwindled, the congregation voted to close the church on August 31, 1973.
