April 21 Today in OPC History

Nashua, Pennsylvania

At the Presbytery of Ohio meeting on April 21, 1958, the presbytery responded to a petition from the Nashua Bible Fellowship to help direct the organization of a new Orthodox Presbyterian Church congregation near Pulaski, Pennsylvania. The Fellowship's executive committee, Mr. Wendell Miller, Mrs. D. L. Whiting, Mrs. R. Whiting and Mr. Lloyd Bailey, attended the meeting and presented the petition. The presbytery set up a special committee, consisting of pastors Wendell Rockey Jr., C. G. Roskamp and elder William Kiester, to meet with and assist the congregation in accomplishing its purpose. Steps were also taken to obtain a worker for the field, and the presbytery indicated a willingness to be responsible for half the salary of such a worker.

On June 4, 1958, Nashua Fellowship was constituted as an OP chapel. Members included Mary Walker Duff, aunt of OPC missionary Clarence Duff, and Miss Margaret Duff, his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Oran Miller, Wendell Miller, Martha Retvasky, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Miller, Mr. and Mrs. D. Laird Whiting, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Whiting, Mrs. Velma VanMeter and Miss Fay Wilcox.

In 1960, Arnold Kress was ordained and installed as pastor of Nashua OPC.
