Raymond Commeret

2021

“On May 30, 1992, a surprise retirement dinner was held for the Rev. and Mrs. Raymond E. Commeret,” reported New Horizons in its November 1992 issue. “The event was hosted by Covenant OPC of Barre, Vermont, in recognition of Ray’s faithfulness to this particular work as well as his many years of dedication to the OPC.”

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Commeret studied at Hope College and Westminster Seminary, and he was ordained by the Presbytery of Philadelphia in 1949. He served Orthodox Presbyterian congregations in Kirkwood, Pennsylvania (1949–1956) and Fair Lawn, New Jersey (1956–1972), before devoting two decades to planting churches in Burlington and Barre, Vermont.

After his retirement, Commeret moved to Michigan with his wife Rosemary, where he was active at Harvest OPC in Grand Rapids, serving on the session, teaching Sunday school, and visiting the elderly and shut-ins. He joined the church triumphant on May 24, 2003, at the age of 81.
