1961 Summer Interns

As the summer of 1961 came to a close, sixteen summer interns from Westminster Seminary had served in Orthodox Presbyterian congregations. Among those interning were future OPC ministers Bernard (Chip) Stonehouse (Emmanuel OPC, Wilmington, DE), George Hall (Trinity OPC, Hatboro, PA), Michael Stingley (First OPC, Manhattan Beach, CA), Rollin Keller (Good Shepherd OPC, Neptune, NJ), Ivan De Master (Covenant OPC, Pittsburgh), and David Moore (Knox OPC, Silver Spring, MD).

Interns Richard Gaffin, Jr. and Peter Steen spent a week helping Pastor Cromwell Roskamp of First OPC canvas a suburb in Baltimore, and Calvin Malcor was employed part-time by Greyfriars Memorial Church in Torrance, CA.

Home Missions General Secretary LeRoy Oliver said of the summer internships, "We believe that the employment of students for summer activity is in the best interests, not only of the local churches, but also of the whole denomination. For while the students are assisting in the program of evangelism they are trained for future service as minsters of the gospel."
