On February 10, 1944, the Presbyterian Guardian reported on twenty Westminster Seminary graduates acting as chaplains in the armed forces of the United States, and four others who were in combat duty and in the intelligence service. OPC ministers serving included Alexander Davison, A. Culver Gordon, Malcolm Frehn, Lawrence Jongewaard, R. Heber McIlwaine, James Moore, William Strong, E. Lynne Wade and Charles Wideman.
According to the Presbyterian Guardian report, some of these men were under fire and helped to care for the wounded on the battlefield. The testimony of the chaplains was that they found that the gospel of Jesus Christ had been the one real comfort for the soldiers and sailors under all circumstances.
