July 20 Today in OPC History

On July 20, 1948, Lewis Grotenhuis, pastor of Calvary Community Church in Harmony, New Jersey, agreed to serve as the Publications Secretary for the Committee on Christian Education. Receiving a salary of $50 per month, Mr. Grotenhuis was given the responsibility of publishing all OPC educational materials.

One year later, the Committee on Christian Education noted with appreciation the great service and prodigious quality of work produced by Mr. Grotenhuis and his limited staff. Knowing that he had often given three days of labor a week in order for the material to be produced on time, the Committee praised the Lord for Mr. Grotenhuis's service and expressed the need to find additional help. Three years later in 1952, Great Commission Publications was formed, and in 1953, Robley Johnson was called as the Committee's General Secretary.
