November 30, 2003 Q & A

Christian Reformed Church

Question:

Why did the OPC break relations with the CRC.

Answer:

The OPC suspended, then terminated, fraternal relations with the CRC because of the CRC's opening up the offices of ruling elder, minister and evangelist to women, contrary to the word of God and historic Reformed church order. This is thought to be indicative of an unwillingness in the CRC to submit to Scripture. The very next day after the OPC terminated its relations with the CRC, the PCA took the same action.

The OPC has not declared the CRC to be no longer a true church of Jesus, but it calls upon the CRC to return to faithfulness to her Lord.
