DISASTER RESPONSE

Meet This Summer’s Boardwalk Chapel House Parents: Michael & Melissa Spangler

Sarah Klazinga

Boardwalk Chapel House Parents take care of the staff throughout the summer, discipling them, caring for them as they’re away from their homes and churches, and having fun with them.

The Short-Term Missions Committee’s Administrative Assistant, Sarah Klazinga, recently did a short interview with the Spanglers.

Q. Tell us a little bit about your family – what you guys do, your background in the OPC, how long you’ve been married, and about your kids.

A. Michael was ordained in 2018 as a Teacher at Providence Church (OPC) in Greensboro, NC. He translates seventeenth-century theology for the Dutch Reformed Translation Society and preaches regularly. Michael and Melissa have been married since 2014 and have two boys: Michael Jr. (4) and Josiah (2). Melissa is thankful to be busy caring for their home and children.

Q. How did you come to this position at the Boardwalk Chapel?

A. Michael had gotten to know Rev. Jim Allay, who gave his name for the position.

Q. What are you most looking forward to about this summer at the Chapel?

A. Michael is excited for the opportunities for open-air preaching and discipleship of the staff members.

Q. Do you think that the current COVID-19 situation will give you a unique opportunity for evangelism not usually had at the Chapel?

A. Yes, God’s providence in bringing calamity will surely underline the urgency of our call to repentance and faith in Christ.

Q. How can we be praying for your family during this time of transition?

A. Pray for love for Christ and for the lost, for grace to serve the staff well, and for health and stamina.
