On October 19, 1983, the Committee on Ecumenicity and Interchurch Relations (CEIR) had a two-day meeting at Orthodox Presbyterian Church Administration Building on 7401 Old York Road in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. The officers of the Committee were Chairman John P. Galbraith and Secretary Jack J. Peterson. Other members attending the meeting were Richard A. Barker, Glenn D. Jerrell, LeRoy B. Oliver and Bernard J. Stonehouse. The Fiftieth (1983) General Assembly authorized the Committee to communicate to member churches of the Reformed Ecumenical Synod to continue pursuing ways of communicating to the churches of South Africa the OPC's grave concern regarding the practice and discipline of the South African Reformed churches with respect to the policy of apartheid and racial injustice in South Africa, acknowledging the OPC's openness to correction with respect to its own ministry.
