Michael and Lynne Babcock

2020

Michael and Lynne Babcock are celebrating their wedding anniversary today. Michael was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and upon his conversion to Christianity he had a heart to spread the gospel. So, in 1989 we went to Scotland as a missionary for Calvary Chapel. Soon after arriving he met Lynne in the town of Larkhall, about 14 miles outside Glasgow. They were married on July 5, 1990. Not only did Michael gain his lass while in Scotland, he also became acquainted with the Reformed faith. Leaving Calvary Chapel, Michael co-pastored in a small church in Dumfries Scotland from 1992 to 1995. While still in Scotland Lynne gave birth to their first son, Ciaran.

Michael realized he needed a better theological education, so they left Scotland to attend Westminster Seminary California in 1996. Upon graduation Michael was offered a year-long internship at Faith OPC in Grants Pass, Oregon, under the mentorship of Larry Conard. In 2001 Michael was ordained by the Presbytery of Northern California and Nevada to plant an OPC church in Las Vegas where he served until 2007. Michael then received a call from Calvin OPC in Phoenix, Arizona, and has been faithfully pastoring there ever since. The ministry at Calvin has grown over the years, even requiring a larger worship facility to be built in 2013. And the congregation continues to grow and mature in Christ, and Michael’s passion and love for Christ’s sheep has grown much since he first went to Scotland over 30 years ago.

Over these 30 years Michael and Lynne have been a blessing to everyone who have known them. And the Lord has blessed the Babcocks with five children: Ciaran, Cameron, Calvin, Chara, and Catheryn. All five have Michael as their pastor since they are members of Calvin OPC.

Editor’s note: Today’s entry was written by the Rev. Wayne Forkner.
