Edward Matteson

Edward Matteson, one of the oldest ministers at the 1936 founding of the Presbyterian Church of America (renamed OPC), was ordained on this day in 1915 in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., by the Presbytery of Bismarck. A graduate of the Moody Bible Institute, Matteson labored extensively in the state of North Dakota, primarily as stated supply for congregations without pastors. His stated supply service included Presbyterian churches in Fort Rice, Coleharbor, Alexander, Stewartdale, Turtle Lake, Menoken, Belfield, Midway, Amidon, Rainy Butte, New Salem, Warner, Zap, Mound, Dodge, and future OPC congregations in Carson, Lark, Leith, and Wilton. On September 8, 1938, Matteson withdrew along with the Wilton congregation and joined the Bible Presbyterian Synod.
