2022

George and Ruth Morton married on this day in 1955. They met at a youth group where George was the speaker and Ruth served as driver. George had become a Christian in high school. After his brother returned from the service, he urged his younger brother to go to seminary before college so he could give an answer for his faith. Following his brother’s advice, George went to Reformed Episcopal Seminary, graduating with a bachelor of divinity in 1954.During this time, George became a member of Calvary OPC in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Three years later, he completed his college years with a bachelor of arts from Temple University.

George began his fifty-two years of active ministry after his 1962 ordination as pastor of two Western Pennsylvania churches: New Hope OPC in Branchton and Faith Church of Harrisville. The congregations merged to become Calvary OPC in Harrisville in 1966. In 1970-1973 he ministered to a Reformed Presbyterian Church, Evangelical Synod, church, then was called as pastor of the Mechanicsville Chapel OPC in Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania.

After twelve years as pastor, he was called as evangelist of Trinity OPC in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, to serve the Southwest Philadelphia Reformed Fellowship in 1988. The mission work became Grace OPC in 1993. He pastored the congregation, which included many West African immigrants, for twenty-four years, In April 2012, he suffered a stroke before church, but preached that morning before going to the hospital for a two-week stay. This prompted an earlier than planned retirement in September 2012 at the age of 79. George also started the Kingdom Housing Ministry, a diaconal work to unwed and single mothers with the support of Trinity OPC in Hatboro and Emmanuel Chapel in Philadelphia, The Lord called George home on November 25, 2016 and Ruth soon after on February 18, 2017.
