Uomoto Family

2020

On September 5, 1963, OPC missionaries George and Fumiko Uomoto and their ten children were settling into their home base of Abington, PA for their furlough year. Lois, Calvin, and Estelle were enrolled in Phil-mont Christian High. Murray, Earl, Faith, Ruth, and Hope were set to attend Willow Grove Christian School. Grace and Joyce were at home with their mother and father.

Five days earlier, the Uomotos arrived in Philadelphia from Sendai, Japan. They were greeted at the airport by many OPC members who had arrived to welcome them back for their furlough year. Through the permission of TWA, photos were allowed to be taken of the family at the aircraft with Foreign Missions General Secretary John Galbraith.

George and Fumi Uomoto would serve as OPC missionaries to Japan for thirty-seven years from 1951–1988. Their son Murray would be ordained as an OPC minister in 1992.
