Trinity Hymnal

2023

On March 15, 1961, the Trinity Hymnal was sent off to the Rayner-Delbeim Company of Chicago for its first printing. In anticipation of the printing, the Hymnal Committee (Arthur W. Kuschke, Jr., Edward J. Young, LeRoy B. Oliver, and Robley J. Johnston) sent a letter to the congregations of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church seeking additional financial support. The Committee reported that contributions totaling $18,836.20 have enabled the Committee to pay for the engraving, typesetting, and copyright fees. However, the cost of printing and binding was an additional $17,000, one half of which must be paid when the book goes to press, In order to make the first payment, the Committee had to borrow $8,500. The Committee then listed several ways that congregations might help so that the Committee would not have to borrow more funds. Per capita contributions in excess of the sale price of the hymnal were encouraged as being essentially loans to the Committee. As the funds became available from the sale of the books, amounts contributed in excess of $3.75 per hymnal would be returned to the church, or additional hymnals secured in lieu of a refund. Advanced orders for hymnals ($3.25 in lots of 100 or more) would also be welcomed. Finally, the Committee noted that if a congregation had funds available which could be lent to the Committee, they would be glad to hear from the congregation.
